Events and walks

Bird-ringing demonstration in the Cricket Scrub (Dominic Mitchell).

Next guided birdwatching walks: Sunday 10th April and 4th September 2011. Meet at 8 am in the Grove car park. Weather permitting there will be a bird-ringing demonstration. As well as resident birds target species include migrants such as warblers, possibly also chats and flycatchers. All welcome.

Past events: BBC Springwatch Day on Saturday 5 June 2010. This was a successful and well-attended event, with hundreds of visitors taking part in various activities including the Natural History Museum's BioBlitz biodviersity-recording program. APOG's stand was manned by Andrew Gardener, Bob and Jenny Watts, Dominic Mitchell, Gareth Richards and our resident ringer Gerry Rawcliffe, who spotted the best bird of the day - a Common Buzzard moving high to the west over the park at lunchtime. This was an appropriate omen for the best talk of the event, which was Mark Pearson's excellent closing presentation on raptor passage across the capital.

APOG members (in green shirts, from left) Gareth Richards, Andrew Gardener and Bob Watts watch a Common Buzzard pass high over the stand alongside Mark Pearson (in black shirt, left) and visitors to the show.
